Appointment of Vice Chancellor

Sir Syed CASE Institute of Technology, Islamabad, a degree-awarding institute chartered by the Government, invites applications from accomplished academic leaders for the position of Vice Chancellor.

The Position

In accordance with the Charter of the Institute, the Vice Chancellor shall be an eminent scholar and an educationist of distinction. The Vice Chancellor shall be the chief academic and administrative officer of the Institute, with overall responsibility for the direction, organization, administration, and programmes of the Institute in accordance with the guidelines and general policies formulated by the Board of Governors and the Board of Trustees, and for the implementation of their decisions and policies.

The appointment shall be for a period of four (4) years, on such terms and conditions as the Chancellor may prescribe, and shall be eligible for re-appointment.

Key Powers and Responsibilities

As provided in the Charter, the Vice Chancellor shall, inter alia:

• submit plans of work and budget estimates of the Institute for consideration of the Board of Governors;
• direct the activities connected with the execution of programmes for instruction, training, research, demonstration, and services;
• authorise expenditure provided for in the approved budget and re-appropriate funds within the approved budget within prescribed limits, reporting the same to the Board of Governors;
• appoint, with the approval of the Board of Governors where necessary, teachers, officers, and members of the staff of the Institute so as to ensure the highest intellectual and moral qualities in the persons appointed;
• create and fill temporary posts for a period not exceeding six months;
• submit reports to the Board of Governors on the activities of the Institute and the execution of the plans of work;
• exercise and perform such other powers and functions as may be prescribed, and delegate powers, subject to prescribed conditions, to officer(s) of the Institute; and
• preside at the convocation of the Institute in the absence of the Chancellor.
