Usman Ahmed

PhD Mechanical Engineering from Dalhousie University
Member Technical Staff, MDA, Canada

Usman Ahmad was a distance learning student of CASE back in 2011-2013 while he was pursuing MSc. Electrical Engineering with a focus in Control Systems. In Winter 2015, he joined Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada for PhD Mechanical Engineering where he was offered a fully funded position at Advanced Control and Mechanisation (ACM) lab. Later in his PhD, he was awarded the prestigious Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarship by the provincial Government of Nova Scotia. He also won Reid Scholarship and Faculty of Graduate Studies Scholarship funded by Dalhousie University. The focus of his PhD research was tele robotics where he worked on the novel control designs of single or multiple master-slave teleportation systems. After defending his PhD in December 2018, he worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Brain Networks & Neurology Lab, Dalhousie University where he conducted research related to machine learning projects for brain imaging applications. In June 2019, he joined MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA), Canada as a Member of Technical Staff where he is involved in research related to space robotics mainly. MDA is not only a prime contractor of the Canadian Space Agency but is the proud manufacturer of Canada Arm2, a robotic arm that assembled the International Space Station. MDA is currently one of the top 10 defence companies in Canada according to the latest release of Canadian Defence Review.
