Umair Rasheed is our Alumni from the batch of 2007 from the ECE Department, SS-CASE-IT, Pakistan.

After receiving Gold medal as the best performing academic student at SS-CASE-IT and winning several national and international Robotics Competitions, Umair received his Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Stuttgart. There he received the prestigious Deutschland Stipendium which is awarded to only 2 percent students in Germany. Umair is currently working at the Volkswagen Group which is the largest automaker by sales in the world and is ranked number seventh in the Forbes 500 fortune companies. Volkswagen Group sells passenger cars under the Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porshe, VW, SEAT and Ducati brands.

Umair works at the VW Group innovation which is responsible for doing research for all the brands in the group. More explicitly, he is working in the environment perception team for the self-driving cars research. He there leads the team that uses Artificial Intelligence and Deep neural networks for the environment perception.

Umair won the Volkswagen Group Innovation award for 2019 for his outstanding performance in enabling the autonomous Robo-taxi demo in the Metropole city of Hamburg, Germany. Umair has been the face of Volkswagen at several high-profile presentations including for the German Chancellor Angela Markel and for the Chinese prime minister Li Keqiang. He has also published several patents under his name in the self-driving car technology.
